Do guys like being admired?

Is it silly of me to tell a guy I’ve been interested in, that there are different things about him that I admire?

I think that many guys do not get complimented enough.
It may look like we do not appreciate compliments but i can promise that we do enjoy them.
Hell i think everyone wants some form of confirmation that their efforts are not for nothing.

I said it to a guy who has always been really respectful and kind with me, however, who was acting way off the other day. I told him I was confused by his behavior and because I think highly of him and admire him in many ways, I wanted to apologize in case there was something I did that im unaware of. My intention was pure so I hope he sees that.
