Why would he stop responding now?

My ex and I broke up a few months ago because he wasn’t “ready” for something serious as he was in a very long relationship right before we met. I missed him over the summer and sent him a message last month. His first reply was that he’s afraid to break my heart again and we should maybe leave it. Then he said he’s seeing someone casually and he’s not comfortable meeting up right now. But we’ve been texting small talk since then. It was on my mind- some of the hurtful things he said during our breakup though & it was more difficult to keep small talk & pretend that hurtful convo never happened. And so I sent him a voice note saying that it was important for me to see him again and talk in person as it was difficult last time we spoke months earlier. I said I understood he’s not comfortable meeting right now but to please let me know when he is. I reminded him that I cared for him & that its hard to have a bad conversation and then not see each other again. He hasn’t responded. He’s replied to everything since we re-established contact. Why not just say “yes or no” why ignore?

To be honest it sounds like he's uninterested in a relationship with you, and he's involved in casual arrangements with other people. In my opinion you should probably move on because he's definitely not putting in the effort that would indicate he's interested.

You deserve better, and getting attention from someone you like should never be that difficult.

Hey thanks for your reply. I agree but I just don’t understand why speak up till this point with smiley emojis etc then when I ask something that I say is important for me, just ignore? Even if you don’t want to see me- what’s the harm in saying that? I’m not some crazy ex who ever did something weird he should be afraid of. If he doesn’t want to- he can say no right? Why ignore?

Some people are hard to read just going by their texts, they don't like conflict and don't want to "Break your heart again" as he put it. He may have been responding to you just to be nice or out of boredom, or maybe he was lonely at the time and wanted attention.
The most important thing is to go by his actions. If he isn't initiating conversations with you, if he isn't trying to see you or trying to be in a relationship with you, then that's the truth about him right now.

I see what you mean but I said in my message that I know he’s not comfortable right now, but can he let me know at some point if that makes sense? When he told me- he said “just for now- hope you understand” and I never actually asked before. He assumed but I never asked him till now.

Yea I get that. I did tell him a week ago I had something to ask him but I needed time 😅. So he knew something was coming lol I just don’t get why not just say “I don’t want to meet or yes that’s fine I’ll let you know” and also why even be chatting with me unless he doesn’t ever want to see me again? Even when we connected again- he said “just at the moment” we can’t meet up. He didn’t ever give an indication that he doesn’t want to speak to me at all or ever see me again. He could just say he doesn’t want to. Ignoring a message like that I find mean
