Why would a guy say “sometimes when you dont pick up my phone I start to get in my own head and think you’re doing something shady, maybe you’re with another guy then he goes “i distract myself by reading and sometimes I start arguing with people?

Past experiences most likely. If you’re busy, let him know. Talk with him about it. If you feel you sometimes need space from your phone let him know.

If you want to help him with his insecurities, let him know you’ll be busy for x amount of time and away from the phone during that time. Give him an idea of what your doing through the day and he will start seeing how you are doing through the day and start getting more comfortable.

In the end though, it’s not really his business why you do or don’t pick up the phone right away. You’re not someone that needs to come running every time he calls. But you should talk to him about it if you want this to go somewhere. Whatever you decide is your choice.

Also if you sometimes answered the phone right away and seemed to drop off a little he might think something is wrong because the behavior changed. This is something I dealt with, with my wife at the time was my girlfriend. We talked and she just told me sometimes she gets busy with work, sometimes she doesn’t want to answer the phone. Now living with her I will occasionally see 20, 30, 5 text unread. Varies. Sometimes she hasn’t even read mine by the time we see each other for the day because she just doesn’t want to look at her phone and wanted a break. Drives me nuts still, but I’ve come to accept that is how she is. She doesn’t love me less or not want to talk with me. Sometimes she is busy or just wants the world to leave her alone.
