Why would a guy do this over the phone?

So me and this guy have been talking since February. He definitely struck me as a shy type who was a bit awkward/oblivious around girls. He wanted my number, so I gave it to him. We've talked mostly every day since then. He starts 95% of our conversations. He will text me to see how my day is and stuff.

Lately, I've noticed odd patterns. He will not text back at night, then hurry and tell me in person the next day why he didn't text back and say he doesn't want me to think he was ignoring me. Usually it's a harmless reason - fell asleep mid-text, forgot/got distracted, etc. I think nothing of it and tell him he's fine.

He got a bit weird last night and started talking about how he messed everything up and didn't even know when a girl was flirting and other people had to point it out to him. I shared that I can be bad at determining whether a guy is actually flirting/truly interested as well. I said I just assume they aren't and are just being friendly 99% of the time. He agreed, but randomly used my name at the end of the text.

He has used my name at random a couple other times during text as well. Why would he do that?

He has also mentioned calling me a couple times but then never actually calls me. Is he nervous to?

Is he a shy guy with a crush on me and unsure of how to approach/make it know? Or is he just playing games? How can I be sure?

I should also note he stares at me a ton in person and he has also called me beautiful over text.

He Deifinitely likes you and sounds like he is Shy, So if he is not texting you as much or not doing it at certain times it just means he doesn't feel like texting, It doesn't mean he doesn't like you or is using you.

A lot of us Guys don't like texting especially for long periods of time, So instead of texting or even calling him try to just spend time with him and get to know him more because he Deifinitely likes you.

Why you leading him on? There has to be other guys applying for the positiob of your significant other. You dont like him or even are talking to him if he starts 95 percent. That 5 percent you initiated, i am curious to know your message and reasoning
