Why does he always like to annoy me when I did nothing wrong to him? Its like we can't talk without fighting for no reason and its so frustrating?

I met him 3 or 4 years ago in school and he's always been like this to me. We are high schoolers now. I asked him why and its because I act like Im better than him in everything but thats not even true. I told him that too and he realized I was right. Even when Im nice he always does some dumb bullshit to try and make me mad and always adds a snarky commet to piss me off. He doesn't even realize that he doing it. Its come to the point where its awkward to be nice to each other. I actually had a crush on him for a while. I doubt he likes me though. he's been obsessed with this girl ever since I've met him but from what I heard he doesn't like her anymore. I just can't wrap my head around why he can't be civil with me like he is to other people. Does he hate me that much?

Im not dating him. he's just an aquaintance I met in middle school and had a crush on. We are freshman in high school now and im forced to be near him because of extracurriculars like choir. I think I still like him but tbh he's starting to make me mad.
