Why did he freak out when he saw me?

Me and this guy were talking for a couple weeks and then he told he wasn’t ready to commit so we broke it off. His friends didn’t like me (they’re girls) and that had an affect on his decision I’m sure. We live in the same building here at college and we are in the same major is and we have a math class in the same hall at the same time. Today I was standing in the hallway after my class ended waiting for a friend in his class to meet her for food (she’s my best friend and he knows it) and him and one of his friends were freaking. He was saying he was nervous and asking why I was out there and said he was stressed all I wanna know is why?

Could it be that he sort of likes you but also has someone in that class he likes or could it be your friend. I mean that's not a normal reaction
