Is it because it's not masculine? Or are the boys I know just weird?
I have no idea. But I think having any special skill is a good thing. I wished I knew how to play a instrument. Lol. Never too late to learn. But I literally can’t.
Some people are just weird about stuff. In reality. There will always be some percentage of people who judge you no matter what you do

no one really cares unless that instrument is deemed "cool". most music genres are usually a combination of vocals, drums and guitar.
only in classical will you find piano, strings, brass, flutes, clarinets etc

It's been like this since I was a kid in middle school... violin... flute... feminine... Cornet. Trombone... saxophone... masculine.
Odd but consistent... You would think that the popularity of "Jethro Tull" back then would have had a few more guys trying out the flute... but no way.No, the violin is a pretty masculine instrument, though sometimes it is refered to as a fiddle when a man plays it. Seems to make it more macho to call it that.
It's not masculine or feminine, it's an instrument. Why would anyone consider any instrument to be for a specific gender?
I used to play the viola and I loved it. Maybe they compare to the jocks who get girls?
They may think guitar is cooler
Playing violin just isn't as cool as drums.
