vs

a guy where the girl approaches him first and he says he’s doesn’t want a relationship?

Doesn’t matter if he was chasing her first or outright rejected her, in both cases he doesn’t want a relationship. The only difference is that in one case he’d have her respect.

To me it’s like an ego boost. Same as when, let’s say, you have a long time partner and even though you’re content in the relationship you’re starting to feel unattractive and want to know you still got it. So you flirt with some guy at work, peaking his interest because it’s a boost to know that you can still pull a man if you want to, you’re still attractive, etc. Same thing with guys like in this case, who ask those redundant questions. He enjoys knowing that if he wanted to, he can still have that girl. It’s control, selfishness and ego/boosting.

What’s it mean if a girl “likes” your message but, didn’t reply. Let’s say the message, was a question, and it could have even just been answered pretty quickly and with one or two words. She just “liked it” but then left it on read after that

Depends. If you guys are friends, then she just liked it out of friendliness. But if you’re talking and flirting and stuff, I would say she’s not too interested. Either she’s trying to be nice by replying or she’s just hoping you understand that she doesn’t want to talk
