Yes. There's a lot of dating that starts with knowing very little about a person. Sure, there's high school and college (I'm excluding work -- that's a minefield and ugly) and so you know a bit (or a lot) about someone and you might be physically attracted to them so you start dating with some knowledge. But, maybe there's the neighbor who lives in the apartment on the floor above or the guy whose dog you tripped over at the coffee shop, or the girl at the bike shop. In each case, you might know one tiny little detail (the guy upstairs only uses red onions to cook with, the coffee shop guy likes dogs, the bike shop girl prefers mountain bikes to road bikes) but that one thing plus something about them physically says, let's seek a date. It's not necessarily sex, either, just a date. So, you go into the date knowing little to nothing. And you talk. And perhaps they're a jackass. Or stuck up. Or stupid. Or maybe they're awesome. So you date enough to know enough about whether you want to continue dating.

Hmmmm... I haven't dated anyone but isn't dating about meeting someone and get to know them? I mean, couldn't I approach a random girl in the street (that I liked visually) and ask her out for the exact reason to learn about her? It makes absolute sense. How else are you going to meet people?

I think of "dating" in terms of already being a couple/official, no in the way of "going in dates to get to know someone".

in my opinion a couple of dates just ain't enough to know someone that well, I don't see it as an effective strategy to get to know someone well.

That's how I do it anyhow, not saying that's how you should do it.

I do it that way because I'm never eager to be in relationship anyways, I just go about my life in a "if it happens then it happens" approach, been working out for me so far.

Of course. That’s what dating usually is. No one really ever knows the person they end up w in the beginning unless you two grew up together or something. But that is what dating is so yes of course. Usually for a man wanting to take a girl out is based purely on looks. He knows absolutely nothing about her other than what she looks like. Unless he sees her at the gym a lot you could make the assumption she likes to work out. But that’s about it.

I've never felt lust for a guy I wanted to be in a relationship with. I actually respect him. I don't see him as an object. That's not the same thing as finding him physically attractive because I find him physically attractive but I still see him as a human. The guys I want to purse have beautiful personalities. I would never go out with a guy that was a jerk.
