I complimented him and he left me on liked, what does that mean?

Okay so he's a pretty shy guy who doesn't talk much, but this week we started being a little more comfortable with each other. So I texted him that he has a pretty smile, he read it inna few seconds and just liked the message. Did he like it? Did I make him uncomfortable?

He probably just didn't know how else to react. The short answer: it's probably fine.

LONG ANSWER: Some of us aren't used to receiving compliments and have a complicated relationship with them. Personally: I care what people think and sometimes seek praise only to slink away in embarrassment when I get it. Compliments make me uncomfortable, but I'd probably die if they stopped coming altogether.

Acknowledging a compliment can mean complimenting yourself (indirectly), which is difficult for some people. A simple "thank you" might feel more like bragging. "Why yes, I am amazing. Thank you for noticing!"

Unexpected compliments can also throw a person off, even if they liked it. They might not have an automatic response and they're not sure how to process it, so "Uh? Oh, yeah..." is all that comes out.

A compliment can be especially hard to accept if a person thinks of themselves as inadequate or thinks they can do better. Just saying "thank you" might feel to them like lying, as if they're taking credit for something they don't deserve.

Deflecting, mumbling, emoting without speaking, pretending not to hear things to avoid dealing with them: these are tools in a shy guy's toolbox. Yes, they're terrible, but they're all some people know how to work with.

TO SUMMARIZE: Liking your text could mean that he's shy, or it could mean nothing, or it could mean exactly what it says: he liked it. Maybe that's just how he says thank you. It's impossible to tell what he's thinking just from that one text, so don't overthink it. Keep getting to know each other, and if it still worries you, ask him about it.

If he's shy he liked it. He just doesn't know how to respond. How much, depends on the guy. Some people don't take compliments.

Yeah, that he read it 3hrs. After you sent it. Not all messages arrive instantaneous. I've gotten texts that didn't arrive ti) the next morning after the person sent them.
