Help? Why is this guy rude and nice to me at the same time?

There is this guy I recently been talking to I thought he was nice until he’s been rude to me sometimes for things that aren’t even a big deal. Like today we were talking about dogs I asked him “well? Have u ever had any dogs in your life?” He said “ I hade on but he scratched me in my eye once and almost pulled my eyes out” I thought the dog was mean or something so I said “wow L dog ngl” ( L means bad” I obviously said that because I thought that dog wasn’t raised right and well he has a scar and it almost pulled his eyes out than he got all mad and defensive and said “shut the f*ck up what do you mean L dog it’s not like he wanted to do that” and I apologized and said “sorry I thought he did it on purpose than he said “yea sure? Anyways I have to go” than he just left me on delivered this isn’t the first time he done it the thing is I kinda like him but he is like this with me I’m not sure if I can tell him I like him because he seems to get offended very easily this isn’t the first time he’s done something like this
