You should not worry about it. Men like compliments as much as women. We all love to be loved and cared. Telling someone that you are attracted to them can be extremely motivating to someone who is shy and an introvert, for example.
But I think you should not think much and look at how things are working. Does he like you back? How is he responding to it?

At the end of the day, it is always a good idea to keep in touch and be friendly with each other!
