Why did he tell me he waited the longest time to talk to me?

I've known this guy since highschool and we would talk on and off

Finally we got to talking more this yr and one night he called me while drunk telling me how he wants to hold me, make me laugh and make me happy

It threw me off when he said those things and I didn't know how to respond

Should I take him serious or just brush it off?

Take him seriously but actions speak louder than words is how I would approach. Overthinking and Overeacting will blow it up for sure.

He probably is feeling guilt about the way he did that too. So "playing it cool" will be interpreted as Dislike.

Depends on how you feel about him. Number one sometimes people are just nervous and number two sometimes feelings don’t develop until later on.

If you like him. Sure see where things to. If you don’t then be nice but turn him down and maybe even try to set him up with someone who would be a better fit.

Have a talk with him when he’s sober. Drunk people don’t always say the truth from my experience so that theory is wrong.

Make sure you are able to talk it over when the two of you are together sober! But alcohol does tend to give people courage to say whatever they want to.

Drunk people are often saying what their normal brain filter wouldn't allow them to. It gets the true person.

Maybe he was too nervous or shy or afraid of how you'd react and when drunk, inhibitions go down or away so now he said what he wanted to.

I would brush it off. He hasn't spent a lot of time with you or made a lot of effort to get to know you, and the only time he talked to you was like when he was drunk.
