Why would a guy suddenly get shy after talking to me for 2 years?

I've been talking to this guy and I really love talking to him and recently he's been acting extremely shy around me. He's never been shy with me before. He's been acting different since July of last year. Now Im old but very inexperienced with guys and their emotions I'm 32 but have never been on a date or had a guy show interest in me I haven't even had sex cause of this problem and I've always felt like it's my looks... So I'm kinda feeling thrown off he got shy after I sent him a whole love confession over text. He's sweet and has always been kind but I'd love to know what would make a guy become shy after a confession? Did I mess up?

Thing is if it turns out to be him not returning my feelings I'd probably just stop trying to find a boyfriend forever cause I'm 32 and no guy has ever liked me In return nor has any guy ever been interested cause I'm not Megan fox or Angelina joli. So rather than getting hurt till the day I die I'd rather save myself from heartache and give up on love all together. So if he does feel uncomfortable I'll apologize and tell him I'll conceal my feelings better that I'd love to at least stay friends.
