He’s a close friend of mine and we both play the same sport. After we watched his game, he gave me his extra jersey and socks.

The his fave team’s jersey or his own probably means he is fond of you and wants to share something special.

I feel like a guy who sees a girl as a sister or close friend (Tom boy-ish) could present it as a gift of a shared love (sports).

But I really think it’s in the sense and hopes that you wear it. A sense of being together. He may want to date you? Being a bit intimate may be somewhere in his mind/logic as well.
