To put in context, I was at the gym and while I was heading in I turned the corner and a guy who is a regular at the gym was there and he said "hola" I think it's cuz he was brought by suprised and didn't know what to do. And I just continued and didn't say anything I felt bad.

What does it mean was he nervous, or am I just thinking to much into it? And I don't know what to do, do I apologize for not answering next time?

It's understandable that you might feel bad about not responding to the guy's greeting, as it's generally considered polite to acknowledge people when they say hello. However, it's also okay to take a moment to process unexpected interactions and respond in a way that feels comfortable to you.
If you see the guy again at the gym, you could consider saying hello back or acknowledging his greeting in some way. This can help to build connections and create a friendly atmosphere at the gym.
Remember that social interactions can be challenging at times, especially when we're caught off guard or feeling anxious. It's okay to take things at your own pace and respond in a way that feels authentic to you. With practice, you may find that it becomes easier to navigate social situations and connect with others in a meaningful way.
