Why did he feel like he needed to tell me?

This is about my ex of 3 years who went to prison, and got out June 2021. I have old posts on here talking about him. However long story short, he is an addict/narcissist and threw me away like garbage last April and has had a girlfriend since August. However he hit me up a few days ago out of the blue. He told me him and his girlfriend broke up and he OD. He told me he tried to kill himselt and i asked why he is even contacting me and he said “I thought I needed to tell you”. Why would he need to tell me that he almost killed himself? We are still talking but i have mixed feelings about him. He is going to detox tomorrow. He admitted to me that he has been using since he got out of prison.. great. And he still gaslights me and denies certain things.

It'll be difficult to get the a response that isn't criticical of your decision to remain in contact with him but I get it, there are a bunch of people, guys and girls, including those on here, who have dated, bonded, loved, <whatever feeling you want to include here> and they ended up being someone that you end up trying to save, or maybe didn't even see signs until to late. In these cases, everyone telling you to leave or stay NC, and it's not like you don't know that yourself, but our emotions make us (all) do u logical things sometimes.

So rather than criticize you or him, I will simply tell you this, your happiness really is what's most important and you deserve someone that doesn't comes 'assembly required', but rather 'ready out of the box'. Youve done what you can, you gave him 3 years already, you dont need to feel obligated anymore. Help yourself move on by disconnecting your number and getting new one (about $20). I assume you don't want to outright block him and have him hurt himself further

Yeah i agree. I won’t block him, but I think i will not communicate with him, until he FINALLY chooses to get better without relying on me

He needs to go to rehab for awhile and enter a program for addicts and he also needs to get therapy from a professional psychologist and he needs to cut off all the toxic people he surrounds himself with
