Why does ex text me to ask me to call him instead of just calling?

I'm in contact with my ex boyfriend, and over the past couple months it happened several times he texts me and asks me to call him. He never previously did that. Why wouldn't he just call me himself. It's always about mundane things.

It doesn't, but it is a bit weird. It would be easier for him to just call.

People aren't always going to: say, do, think, react, plan, etc like you do. There's really no point in finding why this is either.

It is a change of behavior. When we were together he was usually the one to call. Lately he's taken to texting me to ask me to call. We're both single if that matters.

I really don't think there is some hidden meaning here. This is something so irrelevant.
