I suspect he's trying to say that he is the kind of guy who would rather spend most of his (non-working) time at home, rather than constantly being "out" and socializing all the time. "Popular" girls tend to build their entire lives around socializing, and so they're always "out" doing something, and so their boyfriend/husband either has to go with them all the time, or they risk the girl being constantly hit on, which means she's likely to cheat eventually. Some guys are also highly social and would get along with that lifestyle fine, but for those who aren't, dating such a woman is just a huge hassle.
There's a stereotype that people who mostly stay home are "boring" - which I disagree with - but that's the kind of girl he's looking for. He just worded it badly.
Is popular a thing for 36-45 year olds?
