I don't judge people by natural startle / fear reactions but by how they react. Bravery isn't about not having fear, its about doing what needs doing despite fear.

Not necessarily. Our bodies are programmed to respond to such things. With practice, this instinct can be over-ridden to a degree, or enhanced to become even more sensitive.

Of course not. It makes them more responsive to the environment and better able to protect you.

Flinching is a natural reaction to the unknown. Flinching prepares your body for a possible attack or response to danger.
