When is playfighting too far?

Yesterday me and my boyfriend were joking around, I thought, and playfighting. But then he said he was actually annoyed at me and proceeded to hit me on my body, not my face. He did it a couple of times. It felt like he was proving a point. Is this too far? He’s never actually hit me out of anger or annoyance before so I’m a bit shook he took the physical route.

Do you think this shows an abusive tendency? Or can he rise above this behaviour in future? I have already told him it’s unacceptable and I won’t tolerate it again.

Honestly it could be either that it was dine around u 2 play fighting makes it harder to understand what did he respond to you saying that

I was talking to him about a chore he didn’t do and that he needs to do it and then he got annoyed (even though I thought at the time he was joking) and playfought with me but when I wouldn’t leave he rushed me out of the room slapping me like a petulant child.
