What does it mean when a guy tells you he can’t take you hiking because you get distracted and he’d have to double back to find you?

Is it his way of giving himself an out? Honestly it felt like an insult. Apparently I’m “easily amused.”

That sounds to me like he doesn't believe that you share the same degree of hiking pleasure as he does and doesn't want to diminish his hiking experiences.

Everyone has likes that their romantic partners may not share. That doesn't necessarily make them not compatible.

His comment about needing to "double back to find you" might sound a tad harsh, but I wonder how many visits to that subject of conversation eventually elicited that response from him.

Sometimes, it's hard for people to say that they need their own recreational time to themselves.

I've been there with many conversations of that nature. It's not always easy to muddle through some of them.

If hiking is something that you'd really like to do, but with a combination of your likes as well as his, or even just as you'd like to, ask him if he'd do that with you. You'd then be the inviter, not the invitee, which tips the situation towards what you'd like to do.

Explain to him that you'd like to hike with him but ask him to look at it as a shared experienced for the two of you and not with you being an accessory to his solo hiking.

That concept has turned my head in thinking about shared experiences with my wife over the years.

I still prefer fishing without my wife being along, though.

Are you someone who does easily get distracted? If you are, I wouldn't want to take you either, as I am someone who doesn't want to stop and see everything little thing. Sometimes I just want to hike
