Why are 66% of young men single?

The disparity of 66% of 20's men being single and for 32% of 20's women being single means only 34 in 100 men considered themselves partnered but 68 in 100 girls considered themselves partnered. That might mean 34 in 100 girls are dating outside of the 20's age bracket or it might mean that 34 in one 100 are exploring lesbianism.

Or that 29 yo females are partnered with 32 yo males. At marriage males are typically 1-3 years older than their wife (40.8%). Over all men are older 67.7% of the time. Of equal age is only 14.8% . The wife being older is only 17.5% of the time.

Assuming the same percentages apply to pre-marital relationships then girls 27 -29 conforming to norms could be dating outside the 20's with partners in their 30's. That could be 30 in 100 20's females are dating just outside the 20's bracket and is enough to explain the difference mostly. Between 4-6 years difference is also common (18% - close to 1 in 5) so even 24 yo girls might be dating outside the 20's some 20 yo girls will date 30 yo guys because about 10% of marriages have a 10 year age gap.

Conversely only 6 in 100 girls marry younger.

So all around nothing much to see. Somewhat older men pairing with somewhat younger women much as it has always been.

To really know what is going on we need a survey that asks the age of the partner. Probably it will have the same distribution as age gap at marriage but it is not a given.

With a quick search I didn't find any data that I'd have much confidence in.

But I'll guess at answers anyway.

1) They are at GaG and a million other places on their phones and computers instead of being out with real people.

2) If there are more single men than women in that age group, that can only be because the women are dating older. Nothing new there, but it may be increasing.

3) More casual dating and "hanging out", meaning less exclusive relationships.

4) Over the decades, a higher and higher percentage of people are going to college, and getting advanced degrees. That may be delaying serious relationships. Basically, the age of real adulthood keeps increasing, with more and more time being spent preparing for life, and less time putting that preparation to use.

I don’t think that guy’s right about his numbers. I mean in my school not every straight guy has a girlfriend but most have had at least one by their senior year.

Busy with work, entitlement issues and just zero game. They don't try hard, they subsequently fail, then blame us for it, which makes it worse for them.

• Young women date older men, older women don't date younger men (generally).
• Women and men often have very different ideas about what a situationship actually means.
• Young men are just generally less interested in even trying to date.
