Is it okay to tell woman to “shut up”?

So if you’re watching several episodes of a tv show you know the woman you’re with doesn’t like while you’re sitting together and she starts talking to you is it mean to tell her to “shut up!!”? Is this common behavior among men or would other men try to have a conversation or pause it?

It’s hard because the thing is we are dating but don’t see each other that often and when we do we don’t talk-he likes watching his crime/legal tv shows which he knows I don’t like and after watching three of them in silence I thought he might be wanting to talk but instead he told me to shut up
