My boyfriend refers to me as "they" even though I go by "she" and "her" why?

Why does he do this? He doesn't really talk about me but his nephew is the only one that knows about me and when he does talk to me, he refers to me as "they"

You __correct__ them - regardless of any PC bullshit that they may have picked-up - and ask "Have you failed grammar in elementary school? I am female, so you should refer to me as 'she' or 'her'. There is a time to be politically correct and there's a time when it is not necessary.

Did you fail grammar in high school? Outside of PC stuff, everyone is a they/them. They/them can be used both to refer to a single person, as well as a group of people. They literally teach that in elementary school, and that's not new PC stuff, it's just been that way.

When you use "they" to a person (singular) that you know, you wouldn't use "they". When you know the person and that person doesn't tell you what pronouns they (see, I used it because I don't know the person) want, then you use the default pronouns based on what you do know about the person.

For instance, you are expressing yourself as female here. I don't know if you are genuinely female or not and that's irrelevant. But, since you are not some generic person and you are presenting yourself as female, I would use the "she" and "her" pronouns when discussing you. If you told me to use different pronouns, then I would use those.

They/them pronouns work for everybody, it's both to refer to one person as well as a group of people.
Might not even be a new thing they do, you might just be cognitively recognizing they do it now for whatever reason.
