How to backtrack when I got in my head and was unintentionally overbearing towards him?

Is the best way to undo the damage of making something more intense than you even intended for it to be by taking a step back? I kinda feel like over explaining has a snowball effect. Things were going well and they were at an easy place where we were getting to know each other. It’s very early days but there is a lot of potential and I dis something that doesn’t even align with what I want.
