Well maybe he means in general he doesn't but finds you relatable. That could be one possibility. Other than that maybe he means that you aren't really considered a friend but he does like talking to you. Either way take it as you will that he enjoys conversation with you. If you enjoy talking to him then I would look at it as a good thing and not over think it too much. I'd take it as a win and not question it.
