The women that would be drawn to that are just using them as a means to an end — financial security and stability.

Looks have a significant impact on attraction and most old guys aren’t exactly silver foxes.

For an older man to spark genuine attraction in a young woman, he’d have really be a charmer and stand out so much that he’s an exception to the rule — like top 1% of the dating pool — which would mean he probably is still in shape, dresses well, is successful, is handsome, and has hella game.

Simply spoken I don't think it's a question of who deserves whom. Instead they are late with wanting children or some kind of family. To have that they need a young woman since a woman their age can't get pregnant. Since in most relationships a woman rather dates an older man than verse vica they think they have a good chance especially if they have the money to provide for a family.
