Why would someone say this to their girlfriend?

Im in a car club so i like to sit in the car and chill. Im literally right outside of my house. I've always sat in the car even before we met. Its just a comfort/therapy thing.

My boyfriend asked why I sat in the car for so long last night. I said you could have called me back but you didn't. If he's suspicious he will sit on the phone with me and thats fine with me. He said “if you sit out in the car that long again, I will move on and you won't know about it just like I had to find out this way.” Find out what? I didn't even do anything. And why make threats like that? Is it for control or could that be his way of saying he wants to?

What's a car club?

I think you two just need to figure out how to better communicate with each other. You have an unusual habit which would look suspicious to most logical-thinking people. (Like you're angry, sad, that desperate for getting some alone time or privacy, for example.) But you have a personal reason for doing it that is rooted in something psychological.

If he doesn't understand that, and is still stuck on the 'standard' interpretation, then either:

1. You haven't explained it sufficiently to him. (Suggestion: Tell him more about your anxiety issues. It's more palatable than him believing that you need privacy or time away from him.)

2. He's in denial and refuses to trust what you say to him. Or is slow on the uptake, in terms of mental health, feeling, emotions, and the like.

So, figure out which it is. It's one or the other, or, less likely, both. These are not issues to break up over, or start slinging therapyspeak words like 'abuse', 'controlling', yada yada. Communication can solve many issues.

Tell him goodbye, it was nice knowing you and it's too bad it didn't work out.
It sounds like he doesn't understand why you like to do that or has some other issues.
It's not like you are doing anything wrong, so continue to do what you like and makes you feel better.
