Why does he make excuses to call me?

He tries to impress me often but we cannot have that type of relationship. So he could never be forward. Is he trying to signal something to me?

It's sounding like this dude might have a bit of a crush on ya. Making excuses to call and trying to impress you all the time are definitely signs he wants your attention.

Even if he can't be overtly flirty since you said you can't have that type of relationship, he's probably finding little ways to shoot his shot without crossing boundaries. I'd say he's definitely signaling he's interested, in his own kinda roundabout way.

Whether you wanna escalate it further is up to you luv. But seems like he's hoping you'll make a move if you ever change your mind about just being friends. Maybe ask him straight up if he likes you as more than a bud, would clear the air. Either way, don't lead him on if your feelings ain't gonna develop like that too.
