Why is he going to my friends checking/asking about me when I'm not around?

I didn't want to add context because it's just too much, but I'll give you a little bit of it.
Long story short he's been doing a lot of staring to the point where my friend noticed it and told me and she said while they were having a conversation one day he brought me up and she said his face lit up like a Christmas tree she said if he had of been any closer to the bed sheets it would've got fire whatever that means and that he wouldn't make eye contact with her while he was talking to her.

Sometimes but not recently he would stutter or have a hard time getting his words out when speaking to me they kind of sounded mumbly. He blushed a few times but I think that's just something he does in general. At times he would sound shaky in his voice when talking to me, I haven't heard it in a while though.

We work together and sometimes he would come up to me to asked unnecessary questions mind you we don't work in the same department, so like I said if he doesn't see me at work or in my work area he goes to my closest friends and ask them instead of going to the bosses who happens to be his friends they would know more as to why I'm not at work because I report to them.

I kind of think he was a bit jealous because he heard me laughing and yelling a bit with someone of the guys so when I saw him he said sounds like you guys were having fun out there but he wouldn't look at me. So yeah I don't know what is going on with this dude.
Do guys keep watching/ staring at a girl for no reason or is there a reason for it?

Who is "he"? Whoever he is he might be concerned about your whereabouts or making sure you are okay. Maybe he likes you and that's when he feels like he can ask about you without you knowing even though anyone should know friends talk. It is really hard to tell because there is no context to anything here. Like when you are not around... not around where? School? Work? What is he asking them? Obviously they have told you he does that or you wouldn't know about it. Hard to say without a lot more info.

You're welcome and thanks for replying. We work together so it's difficult to say for sure if he likes me, he's hard to read and he said he had a bad experience dating before in the work place so that's probably what he's so hard to read.
