that will really depend on a few circumstances...

would he be someone you just met and acting friendly?

or, would he be someone who has been a friend for a while and maybe changed his ways?

or maybe he's been friendly for a while since you met them?

Men mostly fail at "subtle". We lack the gene that allows it. We can't recognise it either.

The guy is interested a lot, I would think he spends a lot of time talking to a girl wanting to get to know her more. If he is being just friendly, he would just make small talk with a girl.

If a guy is interested I would think he would make it obvious. Like ask you to dinner or for a date.
