Confused about my crush's response?

Today I ran into my crush and smiled at him. He smiled back but quickly looked down as if to hide his smile. I don't know what it means bc I'm still inexperienced in love and romance. Please help. Thanks.

Hmm, that is kinda confusing. When a girl smiles at me and I like her, I usually try to smile back bigger and hold eye contact to let her know I'm interested.

But this dude smiling then looking away quick... it could mean a few things:

- He was just caught off guard and got shy in the moment. Sometimes that happens.

- He might like you back a little but isn't sure yet so didn't want to lead you on.

- Could be he's just not that into you and didn't want to embarrass you by not smiling at all.

The fact that he still smiled is a mildly good sign I guess, but the quick look away part makes it unclear either way.

I'd say don't read too much into this one interaction. Maybe try smiling at him again another time and see if he acts differently. Or even say a quick hey to gauge his reaction.
