For the same reason a woman would be mean to man she likes. But be certain he's being mean and she's not just being oversensitive.

Well then he doesn't like her. Or he has a very toxic way of showing it.
I would communicate my displeasure. And then if the person didn't change I would cut them out of my life. Because if you love someone you have to give them a chance to change. But all relationships require mutual respect. I don't care who you are. This is a MUST. No relationship can survive indefinitely without mutual respect. And it's pointless to try to make it.
