Guys, was he interested?

I was walking on a trail and the guy in front of me I noticed he turned around and saw me and it just got awkward. He would even stop, look back, then quickly keep walking. I could tell he was wanting to turn around but he didn’t. He slowed his speed and let me pass and the literal second I passed he stopped and turned around.
Not sure if i should take this as interest and approach him next time I see him or if it was coincidence. I know for myself I’d just turn around I could care less who’s behind me lol it was just interesting that he turned around the literal second I passed him from him slowing his speed.

Depends on what sort of a trial you're on. Because there's plenty of freaks in today's world who have no problems attacking women, men & kids alone on dark remote trails.

Personally his behavior is quite odd - particularly if he didn't say hi, nice weather, etc. - and I'd not consider it a sign of interest. I'd consider the behavior of a pervert.
