Okay so this is purely a guess but maybe you didn't flirt back or he didn't pick up that you were and thought he had better stop because he thought you were not interested. No much context to the question. He also may have had second thoughts and decided to let things cool off after he was flirting with you. What I mean by second thoughts is that he decided he didn't want to keep doing it and risk losing a friend which is easy to do when the other person doesn't have the same feelings. Things can get real awkward real quick. These are just a couple of guesses.

What exactly did he say that you say he was flirting w you? A lot of women think men are flirting w them when we’re just talking. Other women think a man is flirting w a girl when he talks to a certain girl more than others. Which isn’t always true. I talk to a lot of women myself, some more than others but that’s because they’re not annoying. Easy to get along w, have a sense of humor, don’t get offended easy, etc.
