He respects you and clearly hasn't had reason to yet. Wait until you guys have an argument, then you will see his true colours.

I don't just want to make a sweeping statement like that without explaining it.

If he treats ALL women like that then he is clearly doing what he can to mask it, but nobody can be like that to an entire gender, except for one person throughout the whole time you are together. Eventually he will let his guard down and truth will out!

At least that is how I see it.. I do hope I'm wrong though for your sake.
