My mate almost got into a gnarly fight the other day. His work buddy with him at the time proclaimed after to never expect backup from him, and in a situation like that he'd be off. What a pissy pants
If it's a fair fight he can handle his own. I'm not going to make him look like a pussy that needs to double team someone as soon as a punch is thrown. Now if somebody else jumps in or ol boy beats him limp or pulls out a weapon or something and keeps going, yeah I'ma step in on that one.
That said, I'm also not friends with people that pick fights they don't need to be picking, because we understand that there's a very real probability someone doesn't walk away. Cutting me off in traffic isn't worth that. I saw a guy beating a puppy and "rapidly helped him onto the ground for his safety."
I have and generally will. I might give him shit for it after though if he invited the trouble, but in the heat of the moment, my protector instincts kick in.
That said, depending on the situation, I might try to break it up if I think I can before fists start flying. I prefer to deescalate things if I can. If fists start flying though regardless, I'm joining on my friend's side.

@yepdonethat That's good at least! There's a lot of material I can give you if you want to insult me accurately and take some time getting to know each other. I don't really see much point in grandstanding and trying to one-up each other in terms of toughness though. We'll never be able to have the actual fight. I also don't mind conceding if you're a serious fighter that you'd probably kick my ass. Something I learned about boxing and kickboxing is that the skills don't always transfer well in street fights; grappling is my ultimate weakness and I've lost frequently to submission.
OK. So as someone who has been in real, blood soaked fights, I have questions for you. I do this with stolen valor people too. Describe a blackout. Describe being punched in the nose. Describe being punched in the head. Describe being punched in the stomach. Describe cracked ribs. How much time does it take to be completely exhausted in a fight? Go!
@yepdonethat Worst feeling for me although it's usually in a flurry. I generally don't feel it as much in the heat of the moments as after. Diaphragm punches generally take the wind out of me although not as much as falling heavily on the back from great heights.
Chest contusions and cracked ribs tend to make me cough and wheeze a lot after. Broken bones in general always felt "dry" to me when they occur, like a branch snapping. The acute pain following them is some of the worst although they subside quickly and turn into a dull pain after.
I took a haymaker to the nose one time with my nose instantly gushing blood. Caught me off-guard but I don't even remember how it felt. Was more dazed. Actually it didn't seem to hurt much at all.
My descriptions might not be the best since most of these involved some degree of intoxication. Every single real-world fight I've been was in bars or right outside.
Actually I have a pic from not long back of a shoulder contusion. It's an extremely minor injury compared to some of the worst I've endured and I didn't bother going to the doc but I took a pretty hit to the shoulder:

@yepdonethat Something I can describe very vividly is that I took a beating so bad one time that I was hospitalized for weeks. The chronic pain I can describe to some detail if you're interested.
But something weird happened mentally to me. That's the part I recall most.
Something went wrong with my mind a year or so afterward. I lost my temper all the time in ways I didn't before. It became so bad that I once snapped and lost control and punched my friend. It might have been some mild case of PTSD.
After that I just stopped drinking completely for the entire year because I was so ashamed. It almost seemed like the violence inflicted on me was contagious, as though something about the gang beating I received turned me into a more violent person.

I've never claimed on here to be a badass though. You seem to be interpreting me as someone who conceives of myself as a badass when I hardly do. As I pointed out, I'm only countering your claim that I haven't been in real-world fights, not claiming that I'm a good fighter. If anything, I'm a bad fighter given how many injuries I've taken.

The picture could be from anywhere or anything. That's not proof of a wound from a fight. Doesn't really look like a fight wound anyway. Looks like some type of crushing incident.
@yepdonethat You can actually see the imprint of the fist if you look a bit more closely! But that one involved taking a wild haymaker to the shoulder after attempting to dodge it from a guy much, much bigger than me. He wasn't aiming for my shoulder, I took it to the shoulder.

I took it cleanly around the top of my nose. Both nostrils came pouring out with blood after. It happened in a case where my friends grabbed me in an attempt to stop the brawl but that just let the other guy land the perfect punch on my nose. I don't know if it caused a laceration but almost instantly, I was bleeding profusely out of the nose. Actually got pissed at my friends since the other guy started it. They meant well but grabbing me just let him land the cleanest punch.
Where's this going, anyway? I know I've taken some serious injuries. If my descriptions aren't to your satisfaction, I don't know what else to say. I've been in a number of fights though either way.

How do you get that from what I post? It's quite a blatant contradiction to the way I conceive myself and a great deal of my posts relate to being forthcoming with my faults and internal struggles.
Is there something that seems arrogant or patronizing in my writing style? If so, it is inadvertent on my part. If you are being serious, I could try to correct it if you could point out where my posts come off egotistical.
@yepdonethat I do admittedly struggle a lot with tone in writing. Here in Japan, we have a very active way of speaking in person (called aizuchi) with a lot of emphasis on tone and body language. It's something I feel crippled about in writing is how to communicate tone (short of plastering my text with emojis). So if there's something to my writing tone that comes off very arrogant, I would genuinely like to fix it. It's genuinely not my intention.

Depends on the "boy." I will only fight for someone who has fought for me. Period. An old world woman once told me "never trust a man unless you have eaten a bag of salt with him." So unless you know your friend is "ride or die" loyal. Never fight for them. Only fight for someone you know for sure is going to fight for you.
Only people I am risking serious injury for is myself, my wife and my 3 children as any threat is likely a result of something I did. I have told all my friends "don't write checks with your mouth that your ass can't cash." Along with "if you are dumb enough to start something stupid then you best hope you are smart enough to get yourself out. You have a brain use it. Don't put yourself into a stupid position especially not for the sake of your ego"
I carry a gun (licensed and when I'm not drinking), always carry a knife and completed in amateur MMA since I was 16.
If I didn't back any of friends up they'd be absolutely heated with me lol. That said I would always rather deescalate. I like fighting... with rules and weight classes.
I've done this in the past and I guess under some circumstances I might do it in the future. Usually however, I can de-escalate these kind of situations just by talking. I would farther do that then actually getting to anything physical and risk hurting myself or somebody else or having legal problems. As a result. My experience with de-escalating these kinds of situations verbally has been very positive so far. I used to work in a prison and I got used to doing this.
No I think fighting is immature let alone knowing the actual laws if someone falls and cracks their head the person who initiated gets charged with manslaughter there's a thin line between self-defense and assault and battery

Where do people get into fights? I haven't seen a physical fight since junior high school. In ten years going to clubs in Seattle I haven't seen this happen.
