+1 yI have nothing against video games, but it feels like today’s games suck people in for hours and hours at a time. Some of them, I think you can’t really be competitive UNLESS you play them for hours on end. I had a roommate back in 2004-05 who was HEAVY on the World Of Warcraft grind, and I’ve never seen anything like it. Scheduled his entire life around the game. 16 hours a day, EVERY DAY, and he scheduled all of his classes for Tuesday/Thursday in a row so he could just be out of the house for like four hours and then come home and play. His girlfriend dumped him the first month, lmao. I warned him, too, told him maybe he should hop off the computer instead of making her sit there and watch him play while she watched TV. Day 1 stuff, c’mon, guy😂 With women, boredom = death. You just can’t leave them bored…. and who would want to bored?
If you’re a gamer and you find a gamer girl, congrats, that’s the sweet spot. And I think many more women game today than they did 20 years ago…. but I still wouldn’t count on that. Gotta read the situation you’re in. If she doesn’t share that passion, that’s going to sink you most of the time. I’d say in my experience, women like you to pay attention to them if they’re going to give their time to you.

+1 yI think it's kind of like a guy saying he won't date a woman who enjoys watching movies. There are plenty of reasonable red lines to draw for a woman in the dating pool: No felons, not being emotionally abusive. good hygiene, has goals in life and is working towards them, etc. But then you see silly red lines like "no video games" and as a guy (who is married and not looking) I think "she's probably going to end up with a dickhead who doesn't play video games, because the vast majority of guys do." It's like this employee that worked for me who had a heart-to-heart with me about her dating life. When she listed off the criteria she had, I told her that the guy she's looking for statistically doesn't exist: I think she wanted a ≧ 6'2"guy in Central Virginia who spoke Arabic fluently, had a significantly higher than median income, was in his mid 20's and on and on...
I would ask the OP, what if your dream guy came along, but he also happened to enjoy playing video games a few hours per week? Is it REALLY a deal breaker? How would you feel if a guy was that controlling about what hobbies you pursued?

What Guys Said
+1 yGames are a hobby we aren't angry you are just limiting yourself which is stupid. I retired a few years ago and have enough money to support myself, my wife, my 3 kids, their kids should they have them and their kids kids if I were to live long enough. I have built multiple houses by hand I give around $3m to groups of people annually to help them get back on their feet. I am active with my wife and children and have been for the entirety of our relationship and marriage. And in addition to everything above and quite a lot more I play video games regularly because it is enjoyable and a good way to relax.
All that being said video games CAN be a problem for people who are not able to put the relationship first. But that is not a huge portion of the population. So if you want to unnecessarily limit the number of guys you could potentially end up with (especially considering that 50%+ of single guys will never marry, a tiny portion of them are 6ft+ and even smaller portion make 100k+ year) by all means limit yourself.
00 ReplyI don’t care what you want personally. That said, if you don’t date men that play video games it sort of comes off as you are an elder abuser gold digger that dates men on their death bed trying to get written into the will… That aside, It just sounds like you’re retarded. It’s like having a preference for men that don’t use other technology like TVs, radios, or cars… Who knows, maybe you’re Amish and your question was posted by your pen pal who lives in modern society. If so, I guess I could understand it with that condition.
Percent of men that play video games.
77% of men ages 18 to 29
58% of men ages 30 to 49
40% of men ages 50 to 64
25% of men 65 or older

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yDon't be too picky, lots of the male population plays video games, this generally is reduced with age. Taking anything to an extreme is bad, but a video game on net is better than being a couch potato as it keeps the mind active and thinking. That in today's bureaucratic world is very important.
Regardless follow the rule of what the market has available, time is an asset you can't afford to waste, and as such you can't set standards that cost you too much in time to find if they are meet able at all.
6 months is probably a good rule, if your still single after 6 months your standards are unrealistic for what you have access to.00 Reply
+1 yBecause it's a question of why. Why do you want that? If I'm prince charming and im rich and handsome is it really going to bother you that I play Skyrim or something? A massive amount of boys and young men play to various levels of time.
I used to play a lot more and a friend of mine once said his girlfriend likes him playing them. I was confused so he said well she knows where I am Friday and Saturday nights she can see me, she knows I am enjoying myself, I'm not going out causing trouble or cheating or getting drunk. I think more girls would rather that than what most men do...

+1 yI think people shouldn’t get angry over someone else’s standards. At least they’re being honest.
But everyone has their escape. I don’t see how watching hours of Dateline or Lifetime is ant different then video games or spending hours upon hours of scrolling through social media.
But. Find whose into your and don’t worry about those who aren’t.11 Reply
Asker+1 yThat's the thing tho. I don't want a man that gets lost in fantasy.

+1 yI don't get mad, but thats not a good relationship. When one partner don't want the other partner to pursue their hobbies and interests.
Its one thing when you bring arguments like its too much money we can't afford it, we have other things to pay for, ...
But thats an argument in regards of almost all hobbies, or an argument against someone who is just bad with finances.00 Reply 663 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. It is just a hobby to enjoy and relieve stress. Women not wanting men to enjoy themselves or have hobbies is one of the reasons I never liked my own generation of women. Especially the type of hypocrite women that don't want their man spending $60 on a game, but she thinks it is okay for her to spend $400+ on a purse.

+1 yI play video games occasionally and while my wife may not like it she has to accept it because I am in charge. Assuming the guy is not the stereotypical loser who lives in his parents' basement and doesn't spend too much of his time playing, it is entirely unreasonable for a woman to disqualify an otherwise good man over a hobby like it's somehow worse than the hours they spend staring at their phones.
10 Reply I guess they are upset that it takes them out of the equation. I play video games but if you don't want me because I do that's your choice it doesn't bother me. You're free to have any standards you want.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yMost guys play video games. You should worry more about how much they play, then if they do. If they prioritize games over you, that would be an issue.

Opinion Owner+1 yMaybe they don't have anyebetter to do? It should only be an issue if they are putting games ahead of you.

Nah I'm just playing I don't care, that's how you probably imagine us to react tho 😂20 Reply I want a woman that doesn’t mind me playing video games. I still take care of the bills and work. If me playing video games is a deal breaker then I guess you are not the one for me.

+1 yBecause not all gamers are the same. Tell me something you don’t like about being with a guy that play video games, and I can bet I would be an exception to that standard.

I love video games in so many ways, but they’re not going to get me to neglect my SO.

00 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. I don't care. I play fairly often but that is only because I'm too broke to do anything else and am in parallel waiting for the financial market to yield profits from my investments.

+1 yWhy can’t men say that we don’t want women enjoying a hobby that they like? It’s the same standard.
