How can I tell if he's smiling a lot while talking to me because he likes me or because he thinks I'm awkward?

You can flirt a bit and make some moves of your own. Best way to find out where you stand is make some moves. Then you can stop playing the, "He likes me, he likes me not," game which sounds maddening to me. Offer to hang out some time. You can still leave the ball in the court to ask you out but still make it clear that you're interested.

Even women in the Victorian era dropped their handkerchiefs in front of men they liked to my understanding. And I'm in my 40s but at least when I was younger and single, women let me know they liked me by passing me their phone numbers. If a guy is a gentleman, he's not going to ask you out if you don't show much interest.

I smile at people even who I'm just talking to, to be friendly and nothing more than friendly as a human. After all, there's many out there who look like this all the time 😐😶 or just plain. 😤😮‍💨😠 So I like to be a smile 🙂 human instead

Depends how good one is an actor (amateur even). 🥹🤪 Sometimes it's either fun to play hard to get or just to be a tease. After all, some people never see that same stranger twice or thrice, or they've moved on/mentioned they have a boyfriend/girlfriend or whatever, lol 😂😆 passing the time they do. Anyways I for one have had chicks flirt with me, before, and they knew they didn't always have to be showing their facial expressions or their tone of voices either. Remember, acting 🙂 anyone, can and will, act 😉
