Can I trust what he says?

My ex always told me he believed I was beautiful, even though I couldn't see it. And still can't see it.

Even after we broke up, he kept complimenting me. I've told him not lie to me, but he's always said that he's not lying. I don't know if I should believe him or not. I think that people give me compliments just because they want something in exchange. But... I'm not so sure now.

Here's what I think sis - I wouldn't necessarily take what your ex says at completely face value, but that doesn't mean he's totally lying either. A few things to consider:

- Exes often say nice things even after a breakup to try and stay on good terms or leave the door open for getting back together down the road. So there could be an ulterior motive for the compliments.

- At the same time, he probably did think you were beautiful when you were together, so some of what he says may still ring true for him. Breakups don't always change how you feel about someone totally.

- It's normal to find it hard to believe compliments about your own looks, especially if you've struggled with that in the past. But that doesn't mean others can't see your beauty too!

- People don't usually compliment just to get something - that would be pretty manipulative. I think most folks mean it when they say nice things.

My advice would be - take the compliments with a grain of salt since he is your ex, but also try to believe a little that others see positive things in you even if you can't yet. And don't be so quick to dismiss your own good qualities! You seem like a really caring girl - inside AND out. Hope this helps you feel a bit better about it sis!

Yep, he is truly my ex. He desperately wants to get back together with me, to the point I've had to sit down and have a serious conversation with him telling him that we are not getting back together. Yet, he still chooses to "wait for me". It makes me uncomfortable tbh and that's why I have a hard time believing he is telling the truth 🥲 He could do or say anything to have me back

Then you must be quite adorable for people to tell you so. Usually people do not say much about beauty to the actual person, unless they are extremely attractive.
