This has happened to me many times in class, lecture or at work with people who dislike me. I notice them staring at me (they sit a few rows in front of me) when I was reading, looking at my phone or turning around to put my jacket on and when I look back they turn away and later try to stare again. Why do they do this if they dislike me? If I would hate someone I would either avoid them completely or stare them down so that they notice.
Geez that sounds super frustrating, I can't believe people are actually being that immature. Dealing with passive aggressiveness is the worst. My best guess is they probably feel threatened by you somehow - maybe they're jealous of how smart you are and don't want you to show them up. Or they just want attention and think staring at you will annoy you enough to cause a scene. Some people are just miserable and like dragging others down with them.
I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about their motives though. They clearly have their own issues to work through. The best thing you can do is keep your head up and stay focused on your own stuff. Don't let them distract you from crushing it in class! If they're really interfering with your learning, maybe talk to your teacher privately. But otherwise, try to ignore them as much as you can. I know it's easier said than done, but don't give them the satisfaction of knowing they're getting under your skin.
You seem awesome and super ambitious - don't let a couple haters knock you off your path. You've got this! And if the staring really starts to bug you, maybe try sitting elsewhere. You don't deserve to stress over their dumb games. Keep being your awesome self and I'm sure eventually they'll get bored and find someone else to torture. You've got way better things to think about!

I did that with my crush a lot. When she was near me, I almost ignored her. When she was far away, I was a hawk.
