What was the purpose behind this?

This guy I loved Ian* made a second profile after years of no contact and asked me to marry him. I said no, but asked him on a date. He agreed, then stopped talking to me and sent me a Facebook game, when I asked if he’d like to be Facebook acquaintances. He’d said he loves me. That he didn’t mean to scare me with his inappropriate behaviour (he’s autistic). I told him that I understand and he’s since posted on here to further explain that he can’t cope with having a girlfriend, because of his autism and he closed his second Facebook account today. Did he just want to let me know he cares and all this stuff?

If he’s asked you to marry him and said he loved you then yes I would say there was an adequate amount of care, but I don’t think his post was made specifically as a subliminal message for you. Also fair to note that I haven’t seen his post so this isn’t a biased take. I just think he’s realizing how restricting his autism is for him and I’m sure it’s frustrating. To want a relationship and can’t navigate one. He was probably trying to see if anyone could relate or had some feedback.

I can’t tell you his motives or how he feels with factuality, neither can any one else but him. This is just what I’m making of what he’s said to you. If his autism affects him being able to have a relationship then yeah, that sucks.
