What causes a guy to be so aggressive and mean towards a girl for no reason? He barely know her?

Nerves. Sometimes it can be a mislead to think their being agressive. I often get mistaken for 'attacking' a person because I'm very forthright and tend to speak very much like what I say is uncontestable. It's not deliberate, its just a style of talking I've picked up.

I know a girl I worked with was convinced I was shouting at her, when I was explaining something. I wasn't angry and didn't raise my voice, but I think some people can just come across mean.

Another possible explaination is that the guy got embarassed by the girl.

When I was very young I played with this one girl all the time in the playground. Right up until the other boys in my year/class kept teasing me for being wet playing with the girls, and I was too young to not be affected by peer presssure and instead of pushing back on the idiot guys, I got angy with the girl for making me look a fool. That's a good example of that happening (and I've regretted that always). A few years later, the same girl told her friend she liked me an her friend shouted that out, but I was by then so used to being bullied by other guys, and girls alike. I shouted back "If she likes me she can tell me herself" at which her friend burst into tears and ran off. I felt a little bad at the time, but not too much because bullys often employed similar tricks to make fun of me.
