Ugh that does sound annoying! When a guy ends the conversation like that instead of just saying what he means. Seems like he's trying to let you down easy but still leave it open ended.
Couple things you could try:
- Just be direct back. "Thanks but I'm looking for an actual conversation, not vague dismissals!" Make it clear you see what he's doing.
- Play it off confidently like you don't care. "Haha whatever you say dude." And change the subject back to something you were talking about before.
- If you want things to progress, lay out what you're looking for clearly. "You know, if you're not interested in talking that's fine. But don't string me along with vague compliments."
- Subtly call him out on the patronizing behavior. "You don't need to be so 'bless your heart' about it..."
Don't let him off the hook easily! Guys need to be put on the spot sometimes to actually communicate what they mean. Hopefully addressing it gets him to stop playing games. Know your worth - you deserve more than half-assed texts!
Text him back when he does that saying,”no I am not, explain please.”
