Who exactly are Mediterranean people?

What comes to your mind when you here about Mediterranean people?  I found it a little confusing when I wikipedia'd it it says people from " southern Europe, parts of Eastern Europe, most of North Africa, Northeast Africa, West Asia and parts of South Asia, Parts of Wales, Southern Scotland,[1] as well as parts of southwestern Ireland and western Great Britain,"  with "dark hair and eyes and a olive complexion.

It's talking about a group of people who are genetically similar, and so they don't necessarily need to still live around the Mediterranean sea. Typical traits are things like: (dark) brown eyes, dark skin (not black; not just a sun tan), dark hair, relatively short height (compared to Northern/Eastern Europeans).

In places like the UK, the genes responsible for these traits are likely to have been "watered down" by a lot of mixing with Nordic/Celtic types. You still see plenty of dark haired people with brown eyes though, who likely have some Mediterranean heritage (possibly a very long way back - like when the Romans settled or even way before that).

people who come from areas bordering the mediterranean sea. so the range goes from like southern europeans, northern africans, some middle eastern type countries. people with tan skin, dark hair, dark eyes.  I don't understand either why they would include people from wales, I know some people from ireland though have darker skin and hair because they were invaded by (I think) the spanish (mediterraneans of course) and some of their genes stayed there.  maybe this happened in wales too. that's the only reason I can think of why those two countries would be included. otherwise I think you have the right idea of who mediterranean people are

Like everyone else has said, the lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea..

but where Wales and Ireland fit in, way back, there was a bunch of migration..

Case in point, Catherine Zeta-Jones...

She is Welsh, but looks Spanish or Greek..

I think large European countries like Spain, France, and Italy self identify. While north African countries identify with that continent. People who are seen as Mediterranean are those with a bit of middle eastern infusion. Probably the islands like Crete, Cyprus, Rhodes. You may even consider throwing in countries like Greece and Iseael.
