I don't understand what else you would have expected him to. He confessed his feelings to you. It's perfectly normal, when you tell someone a piece of consequential information to anticipate a reaction.

In fact it would be so much weirder for him to drop a piece of information like that and not wait for a reaction.

Because he bought into the hollywood version of women you see in romance comedies so he thought it's something to talk about.. write songs about... send letters about and so on. In real life the guy doing all that stuff gets laughed at while the other dude is already on the way to the airport with her to go on a week long vacation in the tropics.

No I get that you were taken by surprise, but you see my point? If someone confesses their innermost feelings to you, it's a perfectly natural response to wait until you reply before doing something.
Think about it for a second... If hypothetically he was someone you were head over heels in love with and you told him what he told you, wouldn't you be sitting their wondering what to do until you said something?

@Brunettexoxo Nothing wrong with not knowing how to respond. it's better than the time I asked a woman out for a date and she screamed in my face: "NO!" This was in a business office setting (but we worked for different companies). Mind you, I usually had good results asking women out so it's not like I was a weirdo or a stranger or known for anything bad. Ha ha ha. She later apologized.
