Why does he write and send pictures about his day but then just read what I reply without texting back?

Everyone has their own texting speed. As long as he is enganging and asking about you aswell he's interested even if he needs a long time to answer.

Go trough the same as you but with the girl I am dating rn. I am a frequent texter and reply within 1-2 h or right away and she takes 12h. In person she's all over me otherwise I would be worried.

he might not know what to say to what you texted him or he may be busy.

He sent a text on Friday I replied a couple of hours later, no reply back
He sent again yesterday and I replied again a few hours later but no reply then either and the last reply I gave him was a question about what he wrote about (a video game)

I would wait until you see him and just ask, be open and just ask. Sometimes these things are minor and we read too much into it.
