Why do women compliment their friends and their gay friends on their appearance but they don’t with their straight male friends?

The majority of my friends are male.. I compliment everyone. Male, female, whatever strikes me I speak up. Even strangers. It feels good to make others feel good.
On a complete side note I get the same from strangers too. Just yesterday I had three separate people say they like my riding jacket just because they liked the jacket, no motives.
People need to do this more. It spreads.

Because men almost inevitably take compliments as flirting. I actually do compliment dudes sometimes, but I also have a lot of trouble with my male friends mistaking me trying to be kind and friendly with me being interested. I'd probably be easier to do if I were in a secure relationship, but even then, men really do some mental gymnastics with this stuff sometimes 😭

Tbf, most only take it as flirting because it's not the norm. If every girl gave compliments, then we wouldn't see it as flirting

@Sasquach Yeah but we can't get to that point because when we try, dudes misunderstand and shit escalates. It's also the case that not everyone is the type of person to want to give out a ton of compliments (same as with men), so you can't just say "they all girls should go around complimenting dudes 24/7".

My solution? Men should be complimenting other men more often. Raise each other's self esteem, so that receiving a compliment form much of anyone, regardless of gender, won't seem as unique. It's be seen as a basic positive interaction the way many women see it.

You wanna solve the problem? Go tell your male friends that you think they have beautiful eyes, you love their outfits, and that their kindness is a joy to experience. Then you can question why women don't do it more often. Help each other have the self esteem to not believe that receiving politeness is special.
