WWhat js his obsession with California?

I have a friend who likes metal like me but loves gangs like my cousin. I don't understand it but he has this very random obsession with California gangs.

He was supposed to be going on vacation with us but he's in the hospital... but what is so interesting about California gangs... I really don't know.

Look at American culture, and black culture.

Gangs are promoted as something great, it is glorified as being it, it drives people to idolize them.

Drug dealers, and gangstas all of this promoted as propaganda by Hollywood, and music.

It was the same with the italian mafia, back in the day it was glorified, and everyone thought it would be amazing to be in it.

Lots of gangs in Cali are glorified in music and on tv. Seems like their status is elevated by people who live there and produce entertainment.

But why? Like he's always tryna teach me gang signs and be like "don't do that in public" so after my weeks of pondering I want to know.

He watches too much television. Being a gang member is not as much fun as they make it look. Most end up in prison or dead

I grew up in Southern California. Gangs are stupid and gangsters don't live long or they end up prison. I they get out of the gang or prison before they die then they are lucky.
